FALL 2008 - A MESSAGE FROM INTERIM DEAN KIRNAN
Greetings from TCNJ’s School of Business. We are very proud to be one of only 440 business schools in the United States that are accredited by the AACSB and to cater exclusively to the needs of an undergraduate business education. Indeed, TCNJ was recently cited by Business Week as one of the “Best Undergraduate Business Schools” in the United States in their 2008 survey, one of only 96 institutions to earn that prestigious distinction.
As we commence with the new academic year, I urge you to explore your range of options, and consider some of the truly differentiating features of an undergraduate experience available to you at our School of Business:
- Students have access to real faculty advisors - each of whom holds a Ph.D. or its equivalent, who are true teacher-scholars - throughout their entire four year experience. Please take the opportunity to meet with your advisor, to help ensure you remain on track with your particular program of study. Additional advisory support is available through our Coordinator of Student Services as well as TCNJ’s Office of Career Services.
- Students can choose from among 10 different student run clubs that offer added opportunities for networking and leadership development, including: Beta Alpha Psi, The Collegiate Chamber of Commerce, Delta Sigma Pi, the Entrepreneur Club, the Financial Management Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, the International Business Association, the National Association of Black Accountants, Phi Beta Lambda (Future Business Leaders of America), and the Society for Human Resource Management.
- A growing number of our students are participating in a host of regional and national student competitions as well as presenting research at conferences, providing further opportunities for personal and professional growth. Recent examples include the RISE Investment Challenge, the RBI National Sales Challenge, the National Collegiate Sales Competition, the New York Federal Reserve Investment Challenge, and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research
- The Student Investment Fund provides students the opportunity to make buy and sell decisions, simulating a real world investment and trading environment through our Financial Resources Center.
Today, I look back and cherish more than ever the exploration and intellectual curiosity that helped define my own undergraduate experience. That 4 year period at Seton Hall helped set in motion many of the professional experiences I have enjoyed over the past 25 years in business and academia. I urge you to enjoy your tenure at TCNJ, and take advantage of the opportunities made available along the way. You will explore like never before and as you do, you will find things about yourself and your interests that you never imagined.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Jack V. Kirnan, Interim Dean
